Breed Standards are a vital part to any breeding program. They help guide breeders in improving their stock. The breed standard is developed by the parent club—Akita Club of America (ACA) and approved by American Kennel Club (AKC). The development of the breed standard is vetted through a knowledgeable committee and approved by the membership of the ACA. This beacon document for breeders helps educate the public about the purpose of the breed, and the necessary structural and temperament requirements that is needed for the Akita to function properly and preform the job that it was bred to do.
